Richard E. Hawk, 82, of Moravia, passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at Centerville Specialty Care.
Richard was born June 15, 1936, in Moravia, Iowa, the son of Claude and Tressa (Tisue) Hawk. He graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1953. He was united in marriage to Judy Martin on June 17, 1956, at the E.U.B. Church in Moravia. From this union, three children were born, Jeff, Brian and Noelle.
As a young man, Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also loved playing 16-inch slowpitch softball. He won state softball championships and was inducted in the Iowa Hall of Fame for 16-inch Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1986. He was also inducted in the Cedar Rapids 16-inch Slow Pitch Hall of Fame in 1986.
He was employed with Longview Fibre in Cedar Rapids for 39 years. He held various positions in the company, retiring as a forklift driver. He also was the president of the local union for at least 30 years.
Left to honor Richard's memory are his wife of 62 years, Judy Hawk of Moravia; his children, Jeff (Bernie) Hawk of Mundelein, Ill., Brian (Helen Wilson) Hawk of Cumming, Ga., and Noelle (Jamal) Jaddaoui of Wheeling, Ill.; his seven grandchildren, Brad (Stephanie Sipola) Hawk, Samantha (Jecoa) Osoria, Elizabeth Hawk, Tyler Hawk, Megan Hawk, Brandon Hawk and Jawad Jaddaoui; and two great-grandchildren, Asher Osoria and Mason Hawk.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Tressa Hawk; and two sisters, Lois Tadlock and Carolyn Illingworth.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. A visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home.
