Clyde Mason
CLYDE MARION MASON
Shellsburg
Our beloved Clyde Marion Mason departed Earth for Heaven's glory on Dec. 27, 2015, at the Vinton Lutheran Home at the age of 89.
Clyde was born March 13, 1926, in Shellsburg to Oscar and Bessie (Sanders) Mason on a farm north of Shellsburg. Clyde was united in marriage to Decie Cress on Jan. 22, 1948, in Davenport. Together they created a life of love, laughter and adventures.
Clyde grew up playing outdoors in Shellsburg and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon returning home, he worked with his brothers plastering homes, working as a bricklayer on many buildings in downtown Shellsburg and building swimming pools. After 30 years, Clyde and Decie became custodians at the Shellsburg school. In 1980, at the age of 54, Clyde purchased Arrowhead Resort in Nestor Falls, Canada. He finally retired in 2013 due to health reasons at the age of 87.
Clyde is survived by his wife of 67 years, Decie Mason; daughter, Sheryl (Denny) Reynolds of Des Moines; grandsons, Chad Kurth of Coggon and Tim (Shawna) Kurth; two great-granddaughters, Kinzley and Kennacie of Shellsburg; and too many nieces, nephews and friends to name.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Bessie Mason; brothers, Earl, Richard, Ronald and Harold; sister, Louise; and two infant daughters, Ellen Colleen and Connie Marrie.
A visitation will be held at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. The family invites you to a luncheon following the burial at the Shellsburg Legion Hall.
Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Clyde.
Clyde's family would like to extend their heartfelt thank-you to the staff at the Vinton Lutheran Home, who loved and treated Clyde as if he was their family these past few years.
