FAYE DELORES ARMSTRONG DAVIS
Cedar Rapids
Faye Delores Armstrong Davis passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, in Cedar Rapids.
She was born on March 27, 1927, and grew up on the family farm in rural Martelle, Iowa. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II, events that impacted her throughout her life. She graduated as valedictorian from Martelle High School in 1944. In 1945, she married Marion Lee (Bud) Davis while he was serving in the army. He passed away in 1996.
She was a talented seamstress, a perfectionist, who worked with a variety of fabrics and enjoyed making things well, whether it was to compliment a room or an outfit. She was an avid reader and was keenly interested in politics. She was a very competitive Scrabble player and a master of crossword puzzles. Her life was totally devoted to her family and she loved hosting family dinners and playing games with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Kim Shipley (Stan Thornberry), Gerald (Connie) Davis, Kippen Lilly and Redlen (Donald) Coontz; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Kamryn, Brandon, Kalli, Emily, Stephanie, Jennifer and Rhiannon; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, K (Paul) Wentzien; and was a loving aunt to Elizabeth, Jennifer, P.J. and Margo (Parks) Wentzien. John Lilly also had a special place in her heart.
Her parents, Gerald and Ruth Armstrong; and her sister, Avis LaVonne Armstrong Martin, preceded her in death.
Faye will be cremated. Later in the year, a Celebration of Life will be held and at that time, her ashes will be scattered.
Faye's favorite charity was Camp Courageous. In accordance with her wishes, the family has requested no flowers but encourages contributions to her favorite charity or one of yours.
