On The Record: National Crime Victims' Rights Week

This week's On the Record talks about National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The annual observance is April 2-8 and this year's theme - 'Strength, Resilence, Justice' – reflects a vision for the future where all victims are strengthened by response they receive, organizations are resilient in response to challenges, and communities are able to seek collective justice and healing.
The guest this week is Anastasia Wilson, victim/witness coordinator with the Linn County Attorney's Office. Wilson talks about local activities going on next month to raise awareness of victims' rights and services available to them.
The events during this week next month include:
-April 1, 11Go The Distance for Crime Victims 5k run/walk, 9 a.m. at Thomas Park in Marion. Funds raised are used to reimburse victims for financial losses as a result of a crime.

-April 2, Opening ceremony for Victims' Rights Week at 1 p.m. at the Hiawatha Police Department. The keynote speaker will be Rod Courtney, a Department of Corrections probation/parole officer. Courtney's son recently died after he was given a dose of heroin that was deadly. Courtney works to end drug abuse and is active in Community Resources United to Stop Heroin (CRUSH).

St. SE in Cedar Rapids.
