Errington, Alfred Hall
Alfred Hall Errington, 88, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at his home in Marion, Iowa.
He was a native of Mobile, Ala., and attended public schools, graduating from Murphy High School in 1942, and from the U.S. Maritime School in New London, Conn., as a licensed steam and diesel marine engineer with the rank of Ensign. He served in World War II in the U.S. Merchant Marine in the Atlantic and Pacific war zones. He subsequently joined American Family Life Insurance Corp. (AFLAC) from which he retired as vice president and director of the Human Resource Department. He was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee. For health reasons, he moved to Marion to be near family.
He was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Mobile, the son of Alfred Coe Errington and Nina Lenore Eden. He married Mary Elizabeth Nichols on Sept. 6, 1944.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Veda Lenore; and her husband, Leo Francis Eilers.
He is survived by his three children, Charles Alfred (Eileen) of Marion, Elizabeth Anne (Tom) Boyd, Montgomery, Ala., and William Anthony (Kathryn), Pensacola, Fla.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Charles (Amy) Errington, Patrick Errington, Martha (Dennis) Aragon, Erin Boyd and Claire Errington; and his three great-grandchildren, Madeline, Alaina and Dominic Aragon.
Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, by the Rev. Greg Williamson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion, Iowa.
Donations may be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries or Hospice of Mercy Cedar Rapids.
Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Ala. at a later date.
