Uriell, LaVon
LaVon Uriell, 87, of Hiawatha, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Hiawatha Care Center following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, by the Rev. Mark Ressler. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Guttenberg. Friends may visit at the church Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
LaVon is survived by her brother-in-law, Harold Robertson of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Uriell of Waverly and Bea Uriell of San Diego, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her four sisters Delores Uriell, Virginia Hefel, Geraldine Uriell and Kathleen Robertson; and two brothers, Harlan and Jack.
LaVon was born April 21, 1926, in Guttenberg, the daughter of Gregor and Anna (Wulfekuhl) Uriell. She became a certified professional secretary and worked as executive secretary for Downing Box Co., later known as Longview Fibre, in Milwaukee, Wis., where she resided during her working career.
LaVon was a member of the International Secretary Association and was very active at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, and making trips to visit family and friends.
Memorials may be directed to Veterans of Foreign War or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
