Jenn, Joseph E.
Celebration of Life Mass for Joseph E. Jenn, 92, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Riverside. Officiating is Father Bill Kneemiller of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hills. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Hall, Riverside, with family present from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A vigil service will be at 8 p.m. at the St. Mary's Hall. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Hills. Joe passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at his home in Atrium Village.
Joe Jenn was born Oct. 29, 1919, near Riverside, Iowa, the son of August and Ella Fitzpatrick Jenn. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II European campaign.
Joe and Rita Ruth were married Aug. 11, 1948, at St. Mary's Church in Riverside. They lived in the community during their married life. Joe was a farmer and masonry attendant and had been member of Labor's International Union of North America #309. Joe was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hills; Hills Community Club; and the Friends Club.
Joe was a sports fan who also participated in playing softball and other sports for many years. He was a very avid supporter of all Iowa Hawkeye teams. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo. He served as a volunteer at Atrium Village.
Joe is survived by his wife, Rita of Hills; nine children and spouses, Joanne Murdock (John Greenwood) of Riverside, Eileen Allen of Iowa City, Anita Norman (Ben) of Fort Collins, Colo., Joyce Roper (Ralph) Bald Knob of Arkansas, Donna Arthur (Randy) of Ainsworth, Linda Beeler (Allen) of Iowa City, Tom Jenn (Diane Cerven) of Iowa City, Steve Jenn (Chris) of Hills, and Mary Kay Hora (Tom) of Riverside; two sons-in-law, Bill Fortune of Denver, Colo., and Jerry Murphy of Washington; and a sister-in-law, Veva Jenn of Riverside.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
His parents; two daughters, Beth Murphy and Kathy Fortune; and one grandson, Jeremy Jenn, preceded Joe in death.
A memorial fund has been established for Atrium Village, Iowa City Hospice or Hills First Responders.
