Kamer, Barbra Sue
Barbra Sue Kamer, 44, of Coralville, Iowa, died peacefully Friday March 29, 2013.
Barbra was born April 24, 1968, in Clinton, the daughter of Bruce Sewell and Genevive (Wollam) Kamer. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1986, received her associate degree from Clinton Community College in 1988 and her Bachelor of Art degree from the University of Iowa in 1990.
Barbra worked as a radio host with KROS in Clinton and as a consultant with Frank Magid & Associates in Marion, following her graduation from the University of Iowa. For the past 12 years she was a communications project manager with the Midwest Division of the American Cancer Society. Her work with the American Cancer Society was a calling that Barbra answered every day with a fierce passion and commitment to the fight against breast cancer.
Barbra loved being with her five nieces and nephews. She enjoyed traveling to Indiana and Kentucky for girl time with her nieces, Rebecca and Audrey; cChanneling her inner child with her nephews, Kian and Westen, in Fort Madison and she always got a kick out of texting with her nephew, Justin in Virginia.
She was a member of the P.R.S.S.A. of the University of Iowa, a Past Worthy Matron, chapter 135 of Order of Eastern Star, and Community Congregational Church UCC in Clinton. She was never without a book, she constantly had a project to work on, from quilting to knitting, and she was always cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Barbra is survived by her parents, Genevive W. Kamer of Muncie, Ind., and Bruce S. Kamer of Clinton; her sister and brother-in-law, Bonita and Michael Musal of Muncie, Ind.; her sister and brother-in-law, Brandi and Jerry Koering of Fort Madison; her brother, Bruce S. Kamer II, currently serving in the U. S. Air Force; two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her cousin, Justin Wollam; and her beloved dog, Angel.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Iowa City Masonic Temple, 312 East College St., Iowa City, where a 7 p.m. Order of Eastern Star service will be conducted. A visitation also will be held Wednesday, April 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., preceding the celebration of Barbra's life to be held at 1 p.m. at Community Congregational Church UCC, 2300 Pershing Blvd., Clinton. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests any donations please be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Johnson County Relay for Life, Barbra Kamer's Team, “Hodge Podge,” for the continued research in the fight against cancer.
