Sheriff, George W.
George W. Sheriff, 89, of Marion, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life: 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Bertram Town Hall, Bertram. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Nancy Sisco, Rick Sheriff, Ron (Sharon) Sheriff and Gary Sheriff; sister, Penny Hampton of Boulder, Colo.; 29 grandchildren; and 62 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; two sons, George and Tim; and daughter, Kathy Walton.
George was born Nov. 18, 1921, the son of Aden and Stella Sheriff, in Norfolk, Neb. He married Betty Mae Grooms on June 6, 1941. She died Jan. 22, 2010. George was an electrician and a member of IBEW for 65 years before retiring in 1980. He served with the U.S. Army.
George loved NASCAR, football, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of George.
