Bob was born on Aug. 13, 1927, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of John and Barbara Ann (Vondrasek) Soukup. He graduated from Riverside High School and then went on to work with his dad on the family farm. Robert married Mary Christofferson on June 3, 1950, in Nashua, Iowa, and for 50 years Bob and Mary owned and operated the Windham Grocery Store.
Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was a kindhearted man both professionally and personally. Bob was known for his tomatoes and strawberries and would share them with every-body. He also was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed watching Iowa women's basketball and loved to play cards (especially poker and euchre). He also had a great sense of humor. Bob was simply a friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary; their four children, Dianne (Steve) Sturm of Washington, Iowa, Jeffrey Soukup of Williamsburg, David Soukup of Iowa City and Timothy (La Trenda) Soukup of Tiffin; a brother, John (Betty) Soukup Jr. of Riverside; five grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Samantha, Neal, Quenisha and Taijon; and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Emma.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
