Shey in District 3, Karr in at-large race, council winners
Dec. 1, 2009 7:30 pm
Don Karr and Pat Shey won seats on the City Council tonight over Aaron Saylor and Jerry McGrane.
Karr, 64, longtime owner of Affordable Plumbing and Remodeling, bested Saylor, 28, an investment Realtor with Iowa Realty Commercial.
Shey, 50, a current at-large council member, took on McGrane, 70, for McGrane's District 3 seat and won.
Shey is an attorney and small business owner while McGrane is a neighborhood leader and former railroad and factory worker.
Karr garnered 4,474 to Saylor's 3,692; Shey received 1,366 to McGrane's 1,075.
Both Karr and Shey had higher vote totals than their Tuesday opponents in the Nov. 3 general election, but neither won sufficient votes in the multi-candidate field Nov. 3 to avoid last night's runoff.
