THOMAS "TOM" MICHAEL GOOD
Guttenburg
Thomas "Tom" Michael Good, 79, was born on Sept. 5, 1939, in Calmar, Iowa, to Gerald William Good and Christine Josephine Phillips Good. He died on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Prairie Maison Skilled Nursing Center in Prairie du Chien, Wis.
He attended Mounce No. 10 country school out of Center Point until fourth grade, when he started at Alburnett Consolidated School and graduated in 1957. He went into the U.S. Air Force after graduation for three years, seven months and 11 days, where he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, before being discharged at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha in 1960. Tom married Joan Deann White on May 14, 1961, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Alburnett, Iowa.
Tom attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, while he worked several odd jobs before starting at Collins Radio. In 1968, he started working for DC Taylor, and later Cedar Service Co., doing building maintenance and building swimming pools. In 1976, he bought into Northern Cedar Service company in Mason City, Iowa, a sister company to the Cedar Rapids company. Tom retired in 1995 because of health issues. In 1997, he started driving for Wessells and Norseman Trucking Co. part-time until Tom and Joan built their home in Guttenberg in early 2005.
He was a 50-year member of the Blue Lodge 284 in Central City, Iowa, and members of Marion Chapter 10 RAM in Marion, Iowa, Palestine Council 27 R & SM in Cedar Rapids, Antioch Commandery 43 in Mason City, Iowa, ASR Scottish Rite Temple in Cedar Rapids, El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids, Guttenberg United Methodist Church and Guttenberg Country Club.
Tom was always an avid hunter - squirrels in the fall, ducks on the river, deer in December - and fishing the Mississippi all summer was his passion, plus golfing at the country club until his health prevented it. He enjoyed house boating until they built their house there on the island. They had been on the river since 1972 tenting and later using the houseboat. Tom and Joan met many lasting friends on the river and most all are still in touch with them all year.
Tom is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters, Lawana (Paul) Rothamel of Austin, Texas, and Lanee Good of Waterloo, Iowa; two grandchildren, Ethan (Shayla) Rothamel and Laurel Rothamel; sister-in-law, Jolene White Arends; and a niece and nephew.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, the family requests memorials to be directed to the United Methodist Church in Guttenberg, El Kahir Shrine for the transportation of crippled children or a charity of your choice.
The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation for the care Tom received by Crossing River Hospice and the staff at Prairie Maison.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Guttenberg. Funeral service will be at United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, with the Rev. Neil Hofer officiating.
