Patricia "Patty" Ann Mittauer, 54, of Swisher, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, from injuries suffered in an auto accident. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, with a rosary at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Dustin Vu. Burial with military honors: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Lunch will follow the burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Mark Mittauer; children, Conor, Eric, Dylan and Ellie; siblings, Jim (Kay) Butler, Mary (Michael) Johnson and John (Nicci) Butler; and many nieces and nephews.
Patty was born in Cedar Rapids on Nov. 9, 1961, the daughter of John "Connie" and Rita (Mulherin) Butler. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1980 and the University of Iowa College of Nursing in 1984. Patty served in the U.S. Navy as a nurse for six years, followed by six years in the Naval Reserves, retiring as lieutenant commander. On Feb. 15, 1992, she married Mark Mittauer at St. Mary's in Mechanicsville. Patty provided home health care as a nurse manager for Therapy Solutions.
Faith, family and friends were very important in Patty's life. She was a loving mother, devoted wife and devout Catholic. Patty was loved and cherished by all who knew her – her door was always open to those in need.
Time off was spent on favorite activities, such as antiquing, museums and traveling with her family.
She was proud of her service in the Navy, and loved her job and the patients she served. Her generous spirit and joyous soul will be impossible to replace.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
