DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines police say a 23-year-old man accused of hitting an officer says he wanted to go to jail and was willing to assault other officers to stay there.
Richard West allegedly hit the leg of an officer who responded to a call about a dispute Friday evening.
Police say he told officers that he wanted to go to jail and that he planned to assault other officers if a judge tried to release him.
West eventually got his wish. He's being held on $1,000 bond at the Polk County Jail. It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
