Ronald L. Huff, 86, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at his home.
Ronald Lee Huff was born Nov. 14, 1929, in Albia, Iowa, son of Harold C. and Dollie I. (Beaty) Huff. He attended Moravia High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. Upon honorable discharge, he completed barber college in Des Moines in 1955. He began his profession in Ames before moving to Iowa City, where he operated several well-known and successful barbershops throughout his career, including the Strand and Iowa Memorial Union barber shops. He married Patricia Hammond on May 22, 1988, in Manhattan, Kan.
He was a charter member of the Sertoma Club and a proud member of the GIVE Foundation – Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere. In 1993, he retired from barbering and devoted his time to flying single-engine airplanes, perfecting his golf game, traveling with Pat and sharing in the lives of his grandchildren.
His family includes his wife, Pat; children, Dougles Huff (Sharon Buffington) of Minneapolis and Deborah Huff of Raritan, N.J.; Pat's son, Curt Hammond (Janice) of Dubuque; and grandchildren, Dylan Johnson, Cory Moloff, Kelly DeValve, Cody and Sarah Hammond, Mandy Daley and Brian Williams.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Clair and Eugene Huff and Norma Espy; and Pat's children, Carolyn Robinson and Laurence Hammond.
A memorial service is being planned for a later time.
