Walgreens, the nation's largest drug retailing chain, is planning a store in North Liberty.
The North Liberty City Council on Tuesday will consider approving the company's site plan for an 18,400-square-foot store on the northeast corner of Highway 965 and West Penn Street. The store would be comparable in appearance and size to a Walgreens that opened in 2007 at the corner of Highway 965 and Heartland Drive in Coralville.
The North Liberty Planning Commission on Nov. 5 recommended approval of Walgreens' site plan without any conditions.
Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens operates also has stores in Cedar Rapids, Marion and Iowa City. Walgreens operates 8,123 drugstores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Walgreens ended fiscal year 2013 with record sales of $72.2 billion, compared with $71.6 billion in fiscal year 2012.
