McGrath, Marvelyn Verna Ann
Marvelyn Verna Ann McGrath, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away March 9, 2012, at home, with family at her side, after a short battle with cancer. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford. A service of remembrance will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford, with burial at Koszta Cemetery, west of Marengo. The Rev. David Mosher will officiate. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is assisting the family.
Marv was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Koszta, Iowa, to Vernon Young and Neta Cronbaugh Young. On May 26, 1951, she married Fred McGrath in Norfolk, Va. He preceded her in death in 2003, as well as her parents; one sister, Evelyn; and one great-granddaughter, Lana.
Survivors include three children, Evie Reusch (Al) of Macomb, Ill., Dale McGrath (Sandy) of Norway and Mitchell McGrath (Sandy) of Amana; eight grandchildren, Jamie Wyse, Dan Reusch, Kristi Reusch, Christy Thurman, Cathi Miller, Mike Weber, Tyson Caffrey and Andy Caffrey; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leon Young (Barbara) of Blairstown.
She played piano in her youth, graduated from Blairstown High School in 1951, and worked at Kmart West in Cedar Rapids for 24 ½ years before retiring.
Her husband, Fred, and she spent time together mushroom and arrowhead hunting. Marv enjoyed listening to music, traveling, socializing regularly with Widows and Widowers, Ladose, as well as hot air ballooning, flower gardening, and being with family, especially her great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
