Police arrested a man with a handgun after neighbors reported three gunshots Wednesday afternoon.
Officers responded around 2:35 p.m. to the area of Fifth Avenue and 15th Street SE when the gunfire was reported. Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said numerous people near the scene claimed they did not hear or see anything.
No injuries were reported, and no damage was apparent to police. Investigators were unable to find any shell casings, Hamblin said.
Hamblin said "a few brave citizens" were able to give police descriptions of the people involved. They said the men took off running.
About an hour later, police spotted a man matching the description sitting in the back seat of a car about a block away. When officers stopped and searched the man, identified as Dominique A. Fisher, 21, of 1504 Sixth Ave. SE, they found a loaded 9 millimeter handgun in his waistband.
Hamblin said investigators have not currently connected Fisher to the shooting, but were continuing to look into the matter.
Fisher was taken to the Linn County Jail for carrying the handgun without a permit, and cited for open container, since he had an open can of beer in the vehicle.
Police said the investigation is continuing. Hamblin said the hope is that witnesses or the victim come forward. Anonymous tips are accepted by CrimeStoppers at 1-800-CS-CRIME.
