Thomas E. Pratt, born March 3, 1922, in Corning, Iowa, died peacefully near his home in Sun City West, Ariz., on Sept. 10, 2014. Tom was 92 years old.
A graduate of McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tom attended Coe College and Yale University. After service in the Army during World War II, he worked for E.R. Squibb & Sons Pharmaceutical Co. for more than 44 years, first as a sales representative in northeast Iowa, later moving to its corporate offices in New York City and Lawrenceville, N.J. He retired from Squibb as director of Scientific Services.
Jeanne Stepanek Pratt, born Oct. 14, 1923, passed away peacefully near her home in Sun City West, Ariz., on Sept. 23, 2014. She was 90 years old.
Jeanne graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, attended Coe College, then worked at Collins Radio, West High School in Waterloo and Mobil Oil Corp. in New Jersey.
Tom and his wife, Jeanne Stepanek Pratt, were married for 70 years. Over the years, they made homes in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, Iowa, New Jersey, New Mexico and Sun City West, Ariz.
Tom and Jeanne are survived by one daughter, Sheryl Pratt Guterl; her partner, Carlton Holte; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Tom has two surviving sisters, Maribel Mullins of Tempe, Ariz., and Patricia Lusted of Cedar Rapids.
Jeanne's brother, Louis Stepanek Jr., lives in Cedar Rapids.
Tom will be remembered for his warm smile, keen sense of humor and gentlemanly manner. He enjoyed helping others through Rotary Club, on the advisory board of the New Mexico Cancer Research and Treatment Center, as a volunteer with Sun Health Auxiliary and at Del Webb Hospital.
Jeanne's friends and family will miss her hospitality, devotion and good cooking. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and PEO. She served as president of Kachina Greeters in Albuquerque, and she volunteered at the Sun City West Visitors Bureau and with the Del Webb Hospital Auxiliary.
Both Tom and Jeanne were happy to be members of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church, where Jeanne served as a deacon. They also played in several bridge groups.
A memorial service will be held for Tom and Jeanne at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rusty's Angels Sanctuary, 49459 N. Seventh Ave., New River, AZ 85087, where Tom and Jeanne's beloved dog, Corky, is living with other senior dogs in a loving environment to the end of his life.
