Only minor injuries were reported after a car drove through a KFC restaurant in Iowa City Tuesday afternoon.
Around 1:36 p.m., Pat Venegas said she accidentally hit the gas pedal of her car when she intended to hit the brake and consequently drove through the restaurant, at 130 Highway 1 West.
One person inside the restaurant was taken to the hospital. Venegas said a boy was hit by a table when the car went through the building, but he told her he felt fine before he was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
“It happened in a split second,” the 61-year-old said.
Iowa City fire Capt. Jerry Blank said the building is unsafe and closed until the building's structure and support is more stable. He added it will most likely open shortly.
Officials did not know an estimated cost of damage.
