NAOMI JEAN PAYNE

Naomi Jean Payne, 82, of Colesburg, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.
She was born on Dec. 20, 1933, in Winthrop, the daughter of Fay and Alice (Polk) Gissel. Jean was a 1951 graduate of Independence High School. On Dec. 6, 1952, Jean was united in marriage to Frederick H. Payne. Seven children were born to this union. The couple resided in Colesburg for most of their married life.
Jean enjoyed fishing and gardening. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Jean especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include six children, Clifford (Carmen) Payne of Edgewood, Terry, Greg, Bruce, Audrey and Dennis (Tanya) Payne, all of Colesburg; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one brother, Wilferd (Mary) Gissel of Lakewood, Calif.; and one sister, Norene Gissel of Mena, Ark.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick, in 1981; her son, Douglas; and siblings, Wyvona Kurtz, Harvey Gissel, Earline Donnelly, Delwin Gissel, Sherilyn Fergeson and Vernon Gissel.

Funeral service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood with Pastor Joan Thomas officiating. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home. Interment: Madison Cemetery, Lamont.
