IOWA CITY - Police have arrested a 25-year-old transient man for allegedly sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl on two occasions in Iowa City.
Charles Oleary is being held at the Johnson County jail charged with two counts of third degree sexual abuse.
The alleged abuse happened in an apartment on Valley Avenue, but neither Oleary or the victim live at the property, police said. Iowa City Police Lt. Doug Hart said Oleary knew the tennant, but wasn't sure about their relationship.
Hart said both incidents happened within 24 hours of each other at the same apartment. It is not clear to what extent Oleary knew the victim.
“To my knowledge there is no report of kidnapping or anything like that,” Hart said.
Hart said the victim was admitted to the hospital during the overnight hours to report the alleged abuse. It isn't clear how she got to the hospital, Hart said. According to a news release Oleary was aware of the victims age at the time of the incident.
