Shirley Irene (Beeck) Shover, 71, of Iowa City, formerly of Anamosa, passed away from a brief illness on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Solon Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughter, Kim (Scott) Herren; son, Kurt (Victoria) Shover; grandchildren, Scott, Brooke and Brett Herren and Chanse Shover; stepgrandchildren, Mandy (Allen) Warson, Dusty (Lisa) Miller and Trevor (Kim) Miller; stepgreat-grandchildren, Kennedi and Riley Warson, Ray and Ashleigh Miller and Kailee and Tate Miller; one stepgreat-great-grandson, Cooper Lehman; brothers, Steve (Jana) Beeck of Franklin, Wis., and Robert (Shelley) Beeck of Lost Nation; sister, Susan (Mark) Hildebrand of Kohler, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley was born Feb. 28, 1945, to Albert and Irene Straub Beeck in Clinton, Iowa. She attended Preston Community Schools and graduated in 1963. She married Kenneth Leroy Shover on Nov. 27, 1965, at Salem Lutheran Church in Spragueville. The couple lived in Clinton, Radcliffe and Spragueville, before moving to the Anamosa area in 1975. Shirley worked in computer operations for several companies in her career, including FMC, Lefebure, TLS and the Cedar Rapids Gazette. She retired from The Gazette in 2009. The couple moved to Iowa City in October 2015. Shirley loved knitting, doing crafts and sewing. She was an especially proficient seamstress. She loved and was very proud of her grandchildren. They were her greatest joy.
