Donna Jean Heindselman, 87, of McGregor, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short illness at the Great River Care Center in McGregor on Sunday, April 9, 2017. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Phyllis (Keith) Henderson of Prairie Du Chien, Wis., Verle John Jr. (Pamela) Heindselman of Louisville, Ky., and Denise (Gene) Stout and Paul Heindselman, both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deborah K. Strain; daughter-in-law, Cindy Heindselman; two sisters; and two brothers.
Donna was born March 7, 1930, in Rock Island, Ill., the daughter of William and Bessie Walker. She attended and graduated from Rock Island High School and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Donna was married to Verle John Heindselman Sr. They later divorced. She was a faithful employee, working many years at Penford Products, Iowa National Mutual Insurance and Crawford & Company Insurance Adjusters Inc.
Donna was born in the Depression. Through the hardships of her life, she was a devoted mother to her five children. She was unselfish, soft spoken, caring and honest.
