Long, Virginia Mae (Olmstead)
Virginia Mae (Olmstead) Long, 89, of Marion, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, July 5, 2013. Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Vicki Stanley. The family will greet friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Julie Ann Coady of Marion, Bill (Esther) Long of Alfreton, UK, Grant Jay (Vivian) Long of Marion and Dan (Andrea) Long of Marion; her brother, Lloyd Olmstead; her sisters, Janet Merta and Sandra Svoboda; her grandchildren, Blaine, Mitchell, Blake, Steven and Sarah; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant (June 9, 2001); her parents; her grandchildren, Joey and Lynette; her brother, David Olmstead; and her sister, Rose Lee Barrett.
Virginia was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Webster City Iowa, the daughter of Vernal and Lula Mae (Crawford) Olmstead. She graduated from Webster City High School and in 1943, Virginia married Grant Long in California.
Virginia was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Marion and First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was a talented artist, working in pastels and oils. Virginia also enjoyed handicrafts, including needlepoint, knitting, sewing, and crocheting.
