MARIE LUCILLE THIES

Marie Lucille Thies, 98, of West Union, formerly of Clermont, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union.
Marie was born June 9, 1917, in McGregor, Iowa, the daughter of George and Ruth Seitz. Marie and Louis farmed for many years before retiring to Olney Springs, Colo. After Louis' death, she returned to Iowa and lived in Postville enjoying her garden and doing a lot of quilting. She was a wonderful mother and an amazing lady who could drive a tractor or embroider a pillow case.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Norman) Crawford of Cedar Rapids, Donna (Kenneth) Suckow of Castalia, Ellen (John) Guyer of Clermont, Dan (Linda) Thies of Shellsburg, Mary (Jim) Claussen of Schleswig and Linda (Richard) Schomburg of Cedar Rapids; one daughter-in-law, Helen Thies of Fort Mills, S.C.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Thies; son, Duane Thies; granddaughter, Jolien Suckow; her parents; two sisters, Fern Roffman and Dorothy Huff; and three brothers, John, Donald and Norman Seitz.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, with Pastor Ginny Olson as officiant. There will be a private family inurnment.
The Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin is helping the family with arrangements.
