Leon M. Prier, 58, of Dyersville, formerly of Ryan, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Friends and relatives of Leon may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville where a wake service will be held at 2 p.m. Services for Leon will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville.
He was born Feb. 15, 1958, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Eunice (Oberbroeckling) Prier. He was a 1976 graduate of West Delaware High School. He was a truck driver for Fassport in Dubuque. Leon enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his kids. He often could be found tinkering on a car or helping out on the family farm northwest of Ryan.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville and a member of the Dyersville Drift Skipper snowmobile club.
He is survived by a daughter, Jenna Prier; two sons, Jesse Prier and Joel Prier, all of Worthington; his parents, Marvin and Eunice Prier of Manchester; and five siblings, Lial (Donna) Prier of Ryan, Pam (Bret) Schneider of Holy Cross, Pat (Deb) Prier of Aplington, Todd (Deb) Prier of Ryan and Terry (Becky) Prier of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Lucille Prier and Leonard and Valeria Oberbroeckling.
