Luther, Debra Ann
Debra Ann Luther, 54, of Cedar Rapids, died of cancer Friday night, Aug. 20, 2010, at her mother's home in Oelwein. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with Father Harry Koelker officiating. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.
Born Dec. 1, 1955, in Oelwein, the daughter of Donald and Geraldine (Lilly) Luther, she graduated from Oelwein High School in 1974 and received her bachelor's degree in teaching from UNI in 1981. She devoted her life to teaching. She touched the lives of many children, teaching in Des Moines, Oelwein, Spirit Lake, Fairbank and currently in Cedar Rapids at Kindercare.
Deb loved collecting elephants, puzzles, and especially time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Angella Luther (Dre), and grandchildren, Shawnnessy, Aryeanna and Tres, all of Waterloo; her mother, Gerry Luther of Oelwein; a brother, Donald “Duke” (Cindy) Luther, two nieces, Libbi and Jessi Luther, all of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and a brother, David (Kelly) Luther, a nephew, Justin Luther, and great-niece, Jossalin, all of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald (Nov. 17, 2002); and a brother, Rich Luther in 1977.
A memorial fund has been established in Deb's name by the family.
