Iowa home sales, prices see increase in April

Iowa home sales rose in April and the average sale price increased when compared with April 2014, but results were mixed in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Corridor.
Home sales increased 4.6 percent statewide from 3,033 in April 2014 to 3,172 last month, according to the Iowa Association of Realtors. The average sale price of an Iowa home sold in April was $159,392, up from $149,529 in April 2014.
Homes continue to sell quickly as days on market fell to 90 days compared with 96 days at this time last year.
In Cedar Rapids, 366 homes were sold last month, slightly fewer than 368 in April 2014, according to the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors. The average sale price dipped to $163,525 in April from $171,844 in the same month of 2014.
The number days a home stayed on the market before being sold fell to 90 days compared with 96 days at this time last year.
Home sales rose in April year-over-year in Iowa City-Coralville, according to the Iowa City Area Association of Realtors.
A total of 205 homes were sold last month, compared with 187 in April 2014. The average sale price dropped to $184,910 in April from $196,857 in the same month last year.
The average time that it took to sell a home in the Iowa City area was 76 days in April, unchanged from the same period in 2014.
