Adeline A. Brecke, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hills Community Church by Pastor Gail Mitchell and Pastor Richard Ernst. Burial: 2:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Adeline is survived by her three sons, Richard (Carolyn) Brecke, Rodney (Louise) Brecke and Robert (Penny) Brecke; eight grandchildren, Brad (Jennifer) Brecke, Bret (Carla) Brecke, Michelle (Jonathon) LaMere, Alissa (Bruce) Borrett, Renee Brecke, Robynette (Thom) Fox, Breanna (Trent) Rosekrans and Amy Bachman; 13 great-grandchildren, Madeline Brecke (fiance, Christian Stafford), Katherine Brecke, Zachary, Caleb, Andrew and Noah Borrett, Kaila and Blake Cooper, Bethannie, Andrea and Thomas Fox and Alyson and Tyler Rosekrans; and her sister, Vivian (Al) Hanson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron; two brothers, Wayne and Merlin; and two sisters, Marian Hill and Irene Chartrau.
Adeline Ann was born June 22, 1918, in New Richmond, Wis., the daughter of Edward and Ida Molle Meyer. She graduated from Mellen High School in Wisconsin and then went to Wausau Business Institute. On Oct. 10, 1940, she married Byron Grant Brecke in Mellen, Wis.
In 1947, they moved to Cedar Rapids to raise their family. She was a devoted and loving homemaker to her husband and three sons. Adeline became a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in 1952.
Adeline enjoyed spending time serving and helping others. She was a volunteer for 21 years at St. Luke's Hospital in surgicare and a patient representative -- her time she spent there helped turn the people and friends she worked with into her family. Adeline also enjoyed reading, bird-watching, working in her flower garden and devoting her time to God and her church.
Adeline touched many lives and will be remembered for her faith and the love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice or American Diabetes Association.
