Jacci "Jack" Eugene Linnell of Iowa City, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at Mercy Iowa City. He passed away surrounded by loved ones on a beautiful September afternoon. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to the Jacci Linnell Memorial Fund. The family invites friends to dress casual please!
Jack was born May 13, 1954, in Quebec, Canada. Shortly after his birth, Charles and Dorothy Linnell adopted him and brought him home to Iowa. Jack grew up in many different towns in Iowa. He graduated from West High School in Iowa City in 1972. Jack worked for the Solon school district for many years and he loved everyone he worked with there. Jack also worked in various departments at the University of Iowa for 25 years. On March 28, 1981, he married the love of his life, Susan Jane Hime. They raised three children together, Stephanie, Robert and Jacob.
Along with his love for his family, Jack loved many things in life, including the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denzel Washington films and his beloved dogs, Skittle, Dexter and Gus. Most of all, Jack loved music. He was in many different bands over his life, including Raven and Jack and the Rippers. He started playing music at a very young age with his brother, Andy, and he loved classic rock from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. He passed his love of music on to his children, most notably his love of The Beatles.
Jack is survived by his wife, Susan of Iowa City; his daughter, Stephanie of Iowa City; his son, Robert (Ashton) of Amana; his son, Jacob (Megan) of North Liberty; his mother, Dorothy Linnell of Solon; his brother, Andy Linnell (Sarah) of Solon; his sister, Doreen Skilling (Terry) of Prairie Village, Kan.; his brother, Pat Linnell of Solon; his two Boston Terriers, Dexter and Gus; and many nieces and nephews, friends, and other loved ones.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Charles Linnell; his brother, Mike Linnell; his nephew, Eric McNamara; and his beloved Shih Tzu/Terrier, Skittle.
