Irvin L. Sellner, 86, of Earlville, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019. Visitation: 2:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, Clifton – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, with a 2 p.m. Scripture service, and additional visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Earlville. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.
Irvin L. Sellner was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Earlville, Iowa, the son of Andrew Peter and Dorothy Gertrude (Kelchen) Sellner. On Aug. 6, 1956, Irvin married Donna Amelia Goedken in Dyersville, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Earlville, where they farmed side by side for over 36 years before moving to Earlville in 1992. Irvin was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a faithful man, always carrying a rosary in his shirt pocket, and he was a simple man who loved the farming life, RFD-TV, bird watching, his cars, and most of all, his family. He truly cherished each visit and call from his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews and friends.
Irvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna Sellner of Earlville; his five children, Cindy (Mark) Mensen and Deb (Ron) Mensen, both of Earlville, Vicki (Terry) Meyer of Dyersville, Gary (Karelene) Sellner and Larry (LouAnn) Sellner, both of Earlville; 12 grandchildren, Andy Mensen, Jamie (Mindy) Mensen, Lindsay (Zach) Bindert, Tim Mensen, Kristi (Justin) Penner, Ashley (Tanner) Wellington, Dr. Dan (Samantha) Meyer, Mike (Ashleylauren) Meyer, Alex (Jackie) Sellner, Brandon Sellner, Tyler (Caitlyn Gibbs) Sellner and Kim Sellner; step-grandson, Greg Frederick; 14 great-grandchildren, Owen, Ella and Eva Mensen, Isabelle and Bradley Bindert, Olivia Mensen, Brenna, Macklin, Canton and Heisman Penner, Mason and Leo Meyer and AnnaLynne and Wyatt Sellner. Irvin is also survived by siblings, Germaine Goedken, Delores Burkle, Carol (Merlin) Krapfl and David (Carol) Sellner; and in-laws, Ann Sellner, Carlyn Sellner, Anthony and Esther Goedken, Lois Goedken, Andy and Maxine Goedken, Grace Feldman and Eileen and Bill Wiskus.
Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Dorothy Sellner; brothers, Donald Sellner, James Sellner and John Sellner; sister, Mildred (Ray) Geistkemper; and in-laws, Gilbert Goedken, Donald and Gladys Steger, Tom Feldman and Leo Goedken.
