Solon
Richard C. "Rich" Tomas, 77, of Solon, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.
Born June 23, 1941, the son of Martha (Vermace) and Charles Tomas, Rich grew up in Oxford, Iowa, on a family farm where he had many fond memories. Upon graduation from Oxford High School in 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years.
Rich was employed by Ledford Engineering and Western Fraternal Life prior to his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed mowing at Lake Macbride Golf Course, wintering in Florida, socializing with friends and family, and watching the Cubs and Hawkeyes and recently Iowa State.
His family includes his wife, Mary, whom Rich married in 1992; their children, Matt, Lori (Jeremiah) Sinnwell, Lisa (John) Brokaw and Andy (Joleen) Lawrence; sister, Doris (Jerry) Siegel; grandchildren, Jacob, Alyssa and Wesley Tomas, Madison and Macy Kasparek, Lorin and Andy Brokaw, Lawsin and Joli Sinnwell, and Quin and Alana Lawrence; and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Michele Kasparek.
A celebration of Rich's life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Solon American Legion. Private graveside services will be held at the Oakland Cemetery in Solon with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Solon Fire Department or Solon American Legion Post 460.
