Wold, Helen Elizabeth Bernhard
Helen Elizabeth Bernhard Wold, 90, of Monona, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Helen was born May 21, 1921, to Clarence and Emma (Hartke) Bernhard in rural Monona, Iowa. She graduated from Monona High School in 1938. Helen was united in marriage to Burdette “Andy” Wold in 1941. To this union three sons were born: Richard, Ronald and Mark. She worked for many years at the Monona Greenhouse.
Helen had a real love for life, and especially enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and spending time at the river.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many wonderful friends.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Elizabeth) of Maquoketa and Mark (Sue) of Robins; five grandchildren, Mike (Tammy) Wold of Decorah, Teresa Wold of Orlando, Fla., Andy (Angi) Wold of Parker, Colo., Drew Wold of Washington, D.C., and Amy Wold of Denver, Colo.; great-grandchildren, T.J. Wold of Decorah, Anais, Tyrus and Vienne Wold of Parker, Colo., and Brady, Chandler and Emma Wold of Decorah; one sister, Beverly (Bill) Mazuk of La Crosse, Wis.; two sisters in-law, Idayne Bernhard and Rodena Roethler; one brother-in-law, Bill Schmidt; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Holly Wold and Jason Halverson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Burdette (Andy) Wold in May 2011; her parents; a son, Ronald; brothers, Howard, Clifton, Gordon and Clarence Jr.; and sisters, Ethel Klinge, Georgene Schmidt, Ruth Meyer and Viola Alderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Living Faith United Methodist Parish in Monona. The Rev. Dennis Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow in the Monona Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
