Big 12 deems Iowa State 'appropriately handled' postgame situation
Dec. 11, 2015 3:31 pm
AMES — In the moments that followed Iowa State's comeback win against Iowa, Big 12 Conference officials deemed Iowa State handled the postgame situation appropriately after students rushed the court and a sportswriter suffered a broken leg.
Randy Peterson, a longtime reporter for the Des Moines Register, was tripped in the postgame euphoria and had two broken bones in his leg. Peterson had surgery on his leg Friday and wrote on Twitter that he wasn't trampled but thinks he locked legs with someone, which caused the injury.
Just to be clear, I was not trampled by the crowd, I locked legs with someone,,,,, I think.December 11, 2015

'The Conference has reviewed the Iowa-Iowa State men's basketball game and determined the host school handled its postgame celebration protocol consistent with Big 12 Conference Rules related to sportsmanship and ethical conduct,' according to a Big 12 statement. 'Game management staff appropriately handled their primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of the teams, coaches, officials and administrative staffs. We were sorry to hear about the unfortunate accident with Des Moines Register reporter Randy Peterson and wish him a speedy recovery.
'The Conference considers this matter resolved and will have no further comment.'
Peterson also appeared on the Dan Patrick Show on Friday to discuss the incident.
Iowa State rallied from a 20-point second-half deficit to beat instate rival Iowa 83-82.
