Brinning, Thomas Andrew
Thomas Andrew Brinning, 61, of Keota, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, of injuries suffered in a farm accident.
Tom was born June 2, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Gayle and Alice (Wulf) Brinning. He attended Keota Community Schools and graduated in 1970. On June 18, 1977, he was united in marriage to Louise Adam at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church, Keota.
Tom farmed and fed cattle all his life and loved working with his son, Jerry. He took great pride in living and working on the farm that had been in his family since 1854. He and Jerry attended farm auctions, cattle sales and went on tractor rides together. Tom enjoyed hunting mushrooms, taking scenic drives, grilling steak, taking family vacations and collecting Allis-Chalmers tractors. He loved his two granddaughters and was affectionately known as “Papa Lion.” Tom had a wonderful sense of humor, was a good storyteller and was recognized for his great memory.
Tom is survived by his wife, Louise; daughter, Angie and her husband, Cody Fritz of Cedar Rapids; and son, Jerry of Keota. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Hannah and Abby; two brothers, John (Lolita) of West Chester and Roger (Kathy) of Keota; and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and one nephew, Brandon Brinning.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church, Keota. Pastor Sheldon Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Keota.
A memorial fund has been established for Courage Ride for Cancer, Keota QRS and the Keokuk County Ambulance.
