Moenk, Andrew 'Andy' H.
Andrew “Andy” H. Moenk, 88, went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2012, at home in Yuma, Ariz., surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Monticello, Iowa, to Menno and Anna Moenk. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in Europe during the war. He was one of the early homestead pioneers in Dome Valley beginning in the early 1950s. In addition to farming in Dome Valley and Gila Valley, he was instrumental in the founding of Tri-Valley Ambulance Service, where he served as a board member for many years and in which he was fundamentally involved with the procurement and implementation of ambulance services to include “Jaws of Life” being brought to the eastern communities of Yuma County. He was a deacon at First Southern Baptist Church in Wellton, Ariz. Andy was a believer and supporter of programs for children and was an honorary member of the Mohawk Valley Sheep Club, supporter of the Antelope FFA, and Antelope High School sports programs and events. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans. He believed in being involved in and giving back to the community, and most of all, being a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.
He was a God-loving man who helped his neighbors. He believed in giving others a hand up, and did so
many more times that can be counted during his lifetime.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Myrl; brother, Garrett of Anamosa; sisters, Grace Zimmerman of Anamosa and Lillian O'Brien-Osthus of Marshalltown; son, Wesley Moenk (Janet); daughters, Anita Southwood, Andrea (Houston) Mayfield and Audrey Moenk (John Alden); 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Shirley Murray.
Andy was known for his hard work, quick wit, and the love he shared with all he knew. He believed charity began at home and actively contributed to many charities and organizations.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, at First Southern Baptist Church, 11711 William St., Wellton, AZ 85356.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Andrew Moenk's name to St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, 21069 Prairie Hill Rd., Monticello, IA 52310.
