Mildred L. Smith, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 6, 2017, at Stanard Family Assisted Living Center, Cedar Falls.
She was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Voorhies, the daughter of Joseph and Mayme Yilek Dufek. She graduated from Clutier High School. She married Lester J. Smith on Oct. 9, 1948, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo. He died July 22, 2011. Mildred was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Carlene) Smith of Carol Stream, Ill., and Robert (Renee) Smith of Waterloo; two daughters, Patricia (Jeff) Delagardelle of Cedar Falls and Kathy (Matt) Kinley of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Dawn Delagardelle, Maureen Delagardelle, Steven Smith, Danielle Smith, Jennifer (Drew) Sommerfelt and Sarah Kinley; six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Delagardelle, Gwen, Aubrynn and Cambrielle Sommerfelt and Sydnee and Damien Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Dufek of Cedar Rapids and Anna Mae Dufek of Peoria, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Raymond Dufek and Edward Dufek; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Dufek.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Clutier. Public visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo. Visitation will continue for one hour before services Friday at the church.
