IOWA CITY — Around 20 volunteers biked with bags and boxes of books from the Broadway Neighborhood Center to the Alexander Elementary School in Iowa City on Thursday and delivered the reading materials to students as part of National Ride for Reading Week.
More than 16 cities nationwide participated in this year's event, delivering an estimated 30,000 books to children in low-income areas. Participating groups on the Iowa City ride included the University of Iowa Museum of Art, the Iowa City Bike Library, and Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County as well as volunteers from the community.
