LAWRENCE "LARRY" DEAN LUNDGREN

Lawrence "Larry" Dean Lundgren, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at his home following a sudden illness. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at First Lutheran Church, 1000 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids. Officiating: Pastor Steve Knudson. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Larry was born Oct. 14, 1934, the son of Lawrence and Mildred (Anderson) Lundgren in Burlington, Iowa. He graduated from Burlington High School and served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronic technician from 1953 to 1957. On June 25, 1960, he was married to Norita Mae Anderson.

Larry graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn., with a degree in business administration, with emphasis in church administration. After his college years, he served for one year as an admissions counselor at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. Larry then went on to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, serving as business administrator. Later, he entered a personnel development training program and became a management employee at International Harvester. In 1970, Larry became business administrator of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and retired after 27 years in that position. During his time there, he was given a Fellow Award (FCBA) from the National Association of Church Business Administrators.

Larry held national offices in the NACBA as treasurer, nominations chairman and award chairman. He served as a Junior Achievement adviser, United Way professional assistant, and as president of the Tuesday Morning Optimist Club.

His special interests included family, traveling, fishing, bowling, photography and working with his sons on their projects.

Survivors include his two sons, David Lundgren and Marc (Patti) Lundgren; four grandchildren, Carrie (Rick) Fritz, Sasha (Matt) Raes, TroiAnn Lundgren and Natalia Lundgren; six great-grandchildren, Ryker, Meeka, Makaya, Bella, Korah and Gracie; sister, Lois (Dick) Bailey; two brothers, John Lundgren and Roger (Linda) Lundgren; stepgranddaughter, Loren Macaranas; sister-in-law, Carolyn Kvam; and a niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norita Lundgren, and his parents.
