Harlan Dean McCaw, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Nov. 26, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer that led him through a series of events resulting in little suffering. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.
Harlan was born Feb. 17, 1935, in Blairstown, the son of Elmer and Erma (Thorman) McCaw. He attended Iowa State University for one year before serving in the U.S. Army for three years during a time of peace. On Aug. 17, 1974, he was married to Marna "Jo" Larsen. Harlan worked as an accountant for People's Bank and Trust Co. for 29 years, United Security Bank for five years and Berthel Fisher Financial Services for 12 years.
Harlan enjoyed all sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and going to their football games. His favorite baseball team was the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also loved to play golf with his buddies. When he wasn't watching sports on TV, he loved playing cards with his family and his grandchildren. Harlan also had a hobby of working with numbers.
Survivors include his wife, Marna Jo McCaw; two sons, Craig (Julie) McCaw and Kevin (Debbie) McCaw; daughter, Karla (Rocky) Damiano; stepson, Rod (Kathy) Harris; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Charlene Esse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepchildren, Perry Harris and Kelly Harris.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church Foundation.
