Center Point
Larry Virgil Keyes Sr., 72, of Center Point, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. The family will greet friends following the service at Larry's home.
Larry was born Aug. 4, 1942, in Urbana, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Bernice (Andrews) Matheny. He attended Jefferson High School. Larry married Joyce Ann Curtis on Jan. 21, 1967, and began their life together in Center Point. He worked at Cryovac for 18 years before the couple moved to California in 1984 to start their own business, American Leak Detection. They sold the business in 2005 to move back to Center Point after Larry suffered a stroke.
Larry enjoyed trains, wildlife, raising sheep and cattle and watching his idol, John Wayne, but his love was being with his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his mother, Bernice Keyes of Des Moines; son, Larry Keyes Jr. of Center Point; daughter, Teri (Scott) Eckman of Clovis, Calif.; two grandsons, Patrick William and Preston Jack Eckman; and brother, Dwight Keyes.
Larry was preceded by his wife, Joyce Ann Keyes, who passed Dec. 17, 2012; son, William "Billy" Keyes; father, Virgil Matheny; stepfather, Clem Keyes; and infant brother, Darrell Keyes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the CPU Athletic Department Foundation.
