Moyer, Jack L.
Jack L. Moyer, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha from congestive heart failure. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Asbury United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Carroll Brown. Burial: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ottumwa Cemetery, Ottumwa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Jack was born to Ralph and Sylvia (Sweeney) Moyer in Ottumwa on Dec. 20, 1929. He married Rose Mary Reinier on July 24, 1953, in Agency, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rose Mary; three children: daughter, Sue (Dave) Nauman of Mason City; son, Tony (Joyce) Moyer of Stillwater, Okla.; and daughter, Angie (Terry) Turner of Marion; grandchildren, Kelly (Bill) Wonder of EauClaire, Wis., Kristen (Ryan) Mitchell of Ottumwa, Katie (Bret) Larson of Ottumwa, Jeremiah (Melanie) Moyer of Stillwater, Okla., Joshua (Melissa) Moyer of Las Vegas, Nev.; great-grandchildre,; Lilly and Quenton Mitchell, Elaina Larson, Avery and Taylor Moyer and Aaden and Hannah Moyer; a brother, Jim (Barb) Moyer of Belvedere, Ill.; four brothers- in-law, seven sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Sylvia; brothers, Jon and Jerry; and sisters, Kitty Lou Moyer and Rosemary Bailey.
Jack graduated from Agency High School in Agency, Iowa. He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 125 for 58 years and was an instructor for the Plumbers and Pipefitters apprenticeship program for several years. Jack was a veteran of the Marine Corps during the Korean War, a member of the Marine Corps League and Hanford Post 5.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, their winter home in Florida and sitting on the front porch Semper Fi Dad.
