JAMES MILLER
Marion
James Robert "J.R." Miller, 85, passed away Dec. 21, 2014, in Brazil, Ind.
He was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Topeka, Kan., to Charles and Winifred Miller, and graduated from
Topeka High School (1946), where he met his future wife, Patricia (Smith) Miller. He briefly attended Washburn University in Topeka before enlisting in the Air Force in 1949. Honorably discharged from the service, he then attended Kansas State University, where he completed a degree in electrical engineering. In the late 1950s, J.R. and Pat settled in Marion, Iowa, where they raised two sons, Zachary and Matthew, while he worked first for Collins Radio and then Rockwell International.
In the late 1980s, J.R. and Pat moved to Brazil, Ind., where she preceded him in death in 2004.
Intelligent, fun-loving, and forever curious about the world around him, J.R. will be greatly missed by many – especially his sons, daughters-in-law and grandsons: Zachary and Jo Ellen Miller and sons Ian and Nate of St. Paul, Minn., Matthew Miller and Barrie Nedler and son Wyatt of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters Pat Ecord of Cassoday, Kan., and Barbara Blackburn of Topeka, Kan.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, Kan.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or the ALS Association.
