Iowa caucus campaign reset by Cain's 'surge and suspend' decision

Dec. 5, 2011 9:15 am
The series of “surge and fade” candidates that has marked the race for the top prize in the Iowa first-in-the-nation precinct caucuses has been succeeded by Herman Cain's surge and suspend strategy.
A month ago, Cain was leading the race according to an Iowa State University/Gazette/KCRG-TV 9 poll with the support of 24.5 percent of the 1,256 registered Iowa voters polled.
The
Iowa Poll released over the weekend showed Cain's support had plummeted to just 8 percent. Former House Speaker
Newt Gingrich is the new leader with Texas Rep.
Ron Paul and former Massachusetts Gov.
Mitt Romney rounding out the top tier.
The Iowa Poll also found that 11 percent of the likely GOP caucusgoers remain undecided and 60 percent say they could change their mind before the Jan. 3 caucuses.
So now race is on for Cain's supporters.
