Police said a woman brought methamphetamine into the Johnson County Jail Monday, marking the second time this summer officials say she's brought drugs into law enforcement facilities.
Cristine M. Klein, 31, of Davenport was arrested Monday on suspicion of possession of contraband in a correction facility, a Class D felony.
According to police reports, police found methamphetamine in Klein's possession during a search at the jail. Klein admitted she had brought the meth into the jail, and told police she was too scared to tell anyone she had the drug for fear of being in trouble. She told police she planned to flush the drug down a toilet, but ended up ingesting a small amount while she was in the cell block, then hid the rest in her clothing.
Police initially arrested Klein last month on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. Klein was pulled over by officers around 1:40 a.m. June 6, and during a search, police found marijuana in Klein's purse, methamphetamine wrapped in tin foil in the center console, and several items used to manufacture the drug.
Upon arriving at the Coralville police station, officers said Klein attempted to flush 20 pseudoephedrine pills down the station's toilet.
According to Iowa Courts Online, Klein has eight prior drug convictions from 2003 to 2010. She is being held on a $7,500 cash or surety bond for her most recent offense.
A clerk at the Johnson County Jail said Klein is also being held on bond for multiple probation violations.
