Arlene E. Carson, 91, a resident of Summit Pointe in Marion, formerly of Troy Mills, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Marion Christian Church, 1050 McGowan Blvd., Marion. Funeral services will follow
at 11 a.m. at the church, and will be conducted by the Rev. Peter Mitchell. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Arlene was born Sept. 17, 1926, in rural Central City, Iowa, the daughter of Delbert and Alpha (Seitz) Baumann. She was a 1943 graduate of Central City High School. Arlene attended Iowa State College for home economics. During World War II, Arlene lived in the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity house, since servicemen were occupying the women's dormitories.
Arlene married Joe Carson, and five children were born of this union.
She worked at Rockwell Collins for 27 years.
Arlene was a member of Marion Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary of Troy Mills and the All Church Singles Club.
Arlene was happiest when she was tending her garden and yard. She was an expert seamstress and quilter, and was widely known for her homemade peanut brittle. She enjoyed helping others and traveled with the mission team at Marion Christian Church on numerous mission trips.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie Carson of Alexandria, Va., Ed Carson of Coggon, Jay (Kerri) Carson of Troy Mills and Julie (Stuart) Cole of Marion. She enjoyed her grandchildren, Jaysyn (Cindy) Carson, Mathew (Melanie) Carson, Patrick (Deb) Carson, Timothy Carson, Dan Carson, Mitch (Alissa) Carson, Althea Cole, Robert Cole, Phillip (Amy) Kula, Nathan (Susan) Kula, Rodney (Vicki) Kula and Laurie Smith. Her grandchildren provided her with 25 great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Baumann; daughters-in-law, Barbara (Darrell) Kula and Dorothy Carson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; former husband; son, Larry Carson; grandson, Steve Karr; sister, Lucille Nietert; and brother, Dean Baumann.
