Novak, Wesley Jerry
Wesley Jerry Novak, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Lisbon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Deacon Richard Manning of St. Ludmila's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial, with military honors: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Novak; his children, John (Molly) Novak of Lisbon, Judy (Lew) Gorden of Lucas, Michael Courtney of Anamosa and Patrick (Linda) Courtney of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Derek (Carrie), Britney, Josh, Breann, Chris and Lauren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Novak Jr. of Florida and Otto (Mary Ellen) Novak of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Mary Klopp and Helen Swalley, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Jerry, Joseph, George and Charles Novak.
Wesley was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Marie (Svoboda) Novak. He married Kathleen Bevins on July 21, 1962, in Cedar Rapids. Wesley was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Cedar Rapids American Legion Hanford Post 5. He worked for Smythe Sign Co. in Cedar Rapids until its closing in 1975. He then worked for Kelty Radiator in Cedar Rapids as a shop mechanic for eight years, retiring in 1984.
Wesley was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy or St. Ludmila's Catholic Church.
