Evans, Mary B.
Mary B. Evans, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at New Disciples of Cedar Rapids, a store front located at 2000 Wiley Blvd. SW, Suite 103, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Stasia Fine. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Martin; daughter, Lisa (Don) Phillips of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Sydnee Phillips and Savanna Phillips; brothers, Francis (Carol) Becker of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Sharon) Becker of Waterloo, Harold (Mary Ellen) Becker of Mesa, Ariz. and Junior (Tina) Becker of California; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born Aug. 5, 1940, in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Roth) Becker. She married Martin Evans in Cedar Rapids on Aug. 2, 1975. She worked for the Albert family and Citywide Cleaners for nearly 50 years, most recently as a seamstress. Mary was an elder at New Disciples of Cedar Rapids, where she coordinated special event and funeral luncheons. She also served on the board of directors for the Ecumenical Center of Cedar Rapids for many years.
She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and her dog, Buddy. Mary was a special person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pauline Ivie; and brothers, Vincent Becker and Anthony Becker.
