MARTIN "MARTY" FRITZ

Martin "Marty" Fritz, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington, Iowa.
Marty was born Nov. 7, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Virgel Sr. and Melsena (Spicer) Fritz. He joined the U.S. Army in 1970 and served during Vietnam. Marty married Linda King Swallom in Missouri on March 17, 1973. He worked as a truck driver most of his life, but most recently as a shuttle driver and security guard for the Cedar Rapids Marriott Hotel. Marty enjoyed racing boats, playing cards, camping and fishing. His greatest joy was his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Fritz of Cedar Rapids; children, Tammy (Tom) Wurster of Springville, Iowa, Marty (Terrie) Fritz of Burgaw, N.C., and Mark (Wendy) Fritz of Big Lake, Minn.; stepdaughter, Dana (Scott) Blauer of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, C. Joan McGaffic of Texas, Virgel "Bud" Fritz Jr., Patty Fritz, Charlie Fritz and Penny Trask, all of Cedar Rapids.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Scott Swallom; brothers-in-law, Paul McGaffic, Randy Trask and Donald Geiger; sister, Merle "Tootie" Geiger; and sister-in-law, Cindy Fritz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
